Still I was expecting somewhat better performance, and the advice of disconnecting all other USB devices while running the unit is just unacceptable. Granted my setup is rather complex since I use FX Teleport with three computers, and the latency calculations might not have properly recognized the M-16DX. I got lots of clicks when I tried to use it as an audio interface. I haven't used the finalize effects so I won't offer an opinion here. The channel eq is just ok I have much better sounding EQ plugins, but for a monitor mix they are definitely useful. An excellent value in my estimation for all it has to offer. There are built in effects insert, and finalize effects for mastering, digital in/out, four preamps, and channel eq.

The software supports audio interface through USB 2.0, control surface function in Sonar, and a room acoustic control that compensates for bad room acoustics with EQ. I get to mount the breakout box in a rack and connect the ins and outs to my patchbay and set the mixer on my desk. I got one as a Xmas gift, and I really like the small footprint and breakout box. I am certainly not an expert on CPU architechture, so if I am wrong, someone please help out. USB2 has to use the computer's CPU to do this work. My understanding is that Firewire has a hardware controller chip, that offloads CPU chores needed to get the communication between the device and the computer. I am not the end all on USB2 vs Firewire issues, but I have read a fair amount. I'm asking because I have never heard or read about that possibility but I am not saying there can't be, just asking the question. Pharohoknaughty why would you get corruption when devices are using seperate ports? I already use a USB sound card, a usb external hard drive and wireless keyboard and mouse via a usb port. But the default provided be Edirol has most of the options already mapped. Once setup you have access through the Generic Control Surface page in Sonar to map them how you wish.

The control surface update that Edirol provides in v2.0 allows you to control mixer options in Sonar or whatever controls you wish. You can put wet, schmoozy effects in the 'cans', so the vocalist feels good about what they are hearing themselves do.but the signal can go to SONAR bone dry AND there's no monitoring delay. This is particularly good when working with vocalists. That lets you record with effects in your monitor mix without having to monitor through SONAR and pay the latency delay penalty. One important thing that a mixer can bring to the party is the built in effects. I can't tell you anything about the M-16DX from personal experience (though I have looked at it recently, relative to another application).

This one looks quite good but I don't want to buy it to find it doesn't do anything I can't already do in Sonar.Д«ottom line do I need one and why, if so what do you recommend? I only record me and certainly do not regard myself as a professional recording studio although I do try and get the best results I can, so would this help me in doing so. As I only record one instrument at a time I'm not sure I need an external mixer. My only reason for asking is because I do not have an external mixer in my set up and use the one in Sonar PE 7.02.
